WHEN I WAS A CHILD

I am the one who is neither of this generation, nor of the previous generation. I am the proud born of 80s. Proud Born! Yes, you heard me right, because only people born in 80s knows that how interesting there childhood was.
I am the 3rd born in the family after a brother and sister. there is only one sister after me. As a child I was very calm and quite as I listen it now from others but still in that calmness and quietness I had the best childhood.
In our childhood days all children of neighborhood used to play together on daily basis. Our routine was to get up early in the morning and go to mosque to perform morning prayers, although I was not that much regular in going to mosque in the morning but my friends were. They were early birds and even somehow find time to play cricket after the prayers before going to school. we all were cricket crazy. Then all of us would go to our schools, we were in different schools. After school time it was the time for reading Quran. In my childhood I was very good at reading Quran and so I finished Quran quickly as compared to my other friends, In school I was also better and that were the reasons that my mother wasn't angry on me even if sometimes I was wrong. It doesn't mean that she had not said any thing to me, I and my other siblings have been beaten by her many times, and now sometimes we all sit together and laugh and enjoy all that.

After reading Quran we all friends would go to grave yard to play cricket. Yeah I know it sounds strange, but in fact there was a big ground in the center of the graveyard and also our homes are near to graveyard so that was the best place for us as we were not allowed to go to stadium as it was too far from our homes. That 2 or 3 hours were our playing hours and we would play cricket all that time. Evening was returning home time.
At 9 pm we all used to get together once again and this time accompanied by the girls of the neighbor as well and played "Chupan Chupayi", "Teelo Express" and some other local games. we used to run on the road and shouting aloud as mad people while running. At that time even our minds were clean from all this sex stuffs and we were innocent and not like today's children who knows every thing about sex in their first year of life and are having girlfriends or boyfriends before turning 12.
At 8 pm a drama was aired on Pakistan's national channel PTV daily and everyone did like to watch it, even girls and women used to wait all day long for that drama. 9 pm was News time and that would last for about 45 minutes. That time we were having only 3 channels PTV, PTV 2 and STN and for every program there was a special time as 4 - 6 was children program time, 8 was drama time, and every weekend 10 pm was movie time. 4 timings were for news morning, afternoon, evening and night and not like today that after every half an hour its news time. Cable and satellite TVs were rare at that time.
Some of dramas which aired at that time and were my favorites were Dhuwan, Alpha Bravo Charlie, Tanhaiyan, Aaghosh, Muhasira, Aangar Waadi, Kasak, Ainak Wala Jinn and some others as well and even today I think that they are best dramas ever made
and every one who has watched these dramas will admit it.
1992 was one of the best year ever passed in my life, although I didn't remember so much that happened in that year but I did remember the historic moment when Pakistan won Cricket World Cup by beating England. Imran Khan was the captain and he performed his job so well as captain and we won and that's why today I think that this man has potential and must be given chance to be the next prime minister of Pakistan. I remembered after World Cup he visited our city Mardan for collection of donations to start cancer hospital and we all friends rushed to that area to see him, unfortunately we couldn't as there was a huge crowd and we were so small that we didn't see him.
Load Shedding in Pakistan was not that much at that time as it is now and there was peace and love all over. Every one was secure and there was no bomb blasts, wars, fights, target killings and other threatening and terrorists activities. Price of Oil was 20 - 25 PKR and 10 grams gold price was less then 10,000 PKR. People were satisfied with their incomes. and I was satisfied with my pocket money which was 20 PKR at that time and with that I used to buy so many things. Today even 200 daily is nothing. That was best Pakistan, Peaceful Pakistan.
It was our times when Imran Khan, Pete Sampras, Bret Hart, Hansie Cronje, Mark Waugh, Steve Waugh and Andre Agassi played and it was our time that legends of today like Roger Federer, Sachin Tandulkar, Shahid Khan Afridi, The Rock, Tiger Woods, Michael Schumacher started playing.
It was our times when video games consoles were introduced for home use. In our times cable and satellite TV became common and mobile phones were introduced and telephone, computer and internet became part of our homes. Even they were there in early 80s but at that time they were not for home use. We are the one who learned to play games on video games before today's generation and yesterday generation and we are the one who learned first how to use internet and computer and mobile phones.
We are the lucky children of 80s who had enjoyed simple life as well as modern technological life. At least we didn't spoil our childhood just sitting in one room in front of computer doing some games or using facebook. Our childhood was a real one and not the virtual childhood as of today's children. Our lives were peaceful, our celebrations were fantastic. In fact we are the last human beings whose birth year starts with 1.
I missed all that time and wished that today's children should have time like that. I wish that they play and enjoy their lives at full and not just to sit on computers because this time will not come back.
That's why I say that when I was a child that was the best time ever. But after 2000 every thing changed and specially after 9/11 attack the face of earth become completely different. Now here its only wars, terrorism, bomb blasts, rapes, target killings and fights for power.
Wish that the earth retain its peace once again and wish that we could give it back to the earth as we humans have taken it away.
